ALESSA Records was founded in 2004.
After 30 years of experience in the music business, Peter Guschelbauer decided to launch a label with music of the highest quality.
The name Alessa Records is derived from the nickname of his little daughter Alexandra, who was 18 months old when the label was founded.
Peter Guschelbauer always grew up between rock and jazz music and it was 1967 that was to be very formative for his further development. First, Jimi Hendrix released his Purple Haze, which drove right into his brain and redefined his world, and second, he perceived that John Coltrane, who seemed to be an excellent saxophonist, died. He got himself all the Coltrane vinyl that was available and was fascinated by the eloquent style of this great musician. With Jimi in his left ear and John in his right ear, the 14-year-old had the style of jazz rock implanted in his brain, from which he would not be able to escape for a long time. Only John Surman's Trio with Barre Phillips and Stu Martin, as well as Miles bitches brew sessions, could increase the listening experience and so the development from free jazz and jazz rock went backwards to the previous styles of jazz.
